Grandmas raisin cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 cups raisins
  • 1½ cups water
  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp allspice
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1½ cups chopped walnuts

Process

  1. Simmer raisins in water for five minutes
  2. Drain raisins retaining ½ cup of liquid
  3. Mix shortening, spices and vanilla
  4. Cream sugar and Shortening
  5. Beat in eggs one at a time
  6. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt
  7. Add baking soda to retained raisin liquid
  8. Add retained liquid alternately with the dry team to the shortening
  9. Add raisins and nuts
  10. Drop by teaspoons on parchment paper
  11. Bake at 350℉ 12-15 to preference
